The UK government says we have to cut polythene bag use by 25% by the end of 2008. Billions of plastic bags are choking our planet. All of these “free” bags ultimately cost both consumers and the environment plenty:
- Each year billions of bags end up as ugly litter.
- Eventually they break down into tiny toxic bits polluting our soil, river, lakes and oceans
- Production requires vast amounts of oil.
- Countless animals needlessly die each year
Supermarkets have started charging for plastic bags and have started producing eco shopping bags for customers to buy.. with their logo plastered all over it course!! As if supermarkets don’t make enough money from increasing prices and all the non eco packaging on their products. I bought me eco bag from a small website: www.funishirts.com.
Their bags range from the tredy and quirky to funny slogans, best of all it’s owned by a single mum, I know where I’d rather be spending my money! With the added advantage that I know my bag is different from everyone elses.
